speech right before the election? >> yes. mitt romney has been aggressively pursuing the foreign policy area because he thinks the president is vulnerable. yes, the president did manage to kill osama bin laden on his watch, but in certain other areas the romney folks if you listen to all of the national security advisers, the foreign policy advisers, they think the president is very vulnerable, especially the notion of leading from behind. they say a romney administration would not lead from behind but rather lead from out front, and they're going to go after the president aggressively. you will see this in the course of romney's address which has been very carefully prepared and carefully written and you certain saw to a certain degree when romney did his overseas trip over the summer when he went to britain and then to england and then israel and then he went to poland and the series of speeches he delivered were pretty tough on the president even though he was reluctant to overly criticize the president overseas. the message certainly came through and certainly came through in the in

-- responsibility. what's your policy? >>> mitt romney is reportedly planning a major foreign policy speech after the first debate. doesn't look like he'll be aggressively attacking president obama's handling of the libya attack and apparently romney advisors aren't happy about that. there's a split within the campaign team, some aides argue the libya story is a political gift to paint the white house as incompetent. others argue it's a mistake to run on foreign policy when they could be talking about what matters most to average americans, the economy. let's run this through the spin cycle. i think this is a double-edge sword. on the one hand, this election is about the economy. and regardless of how tempting foreign policy is right now, come election day, voters care most about the economy. that's true i think every year. we know this from 2004. which was supposed to be an election on foreign policy and still exit polls showed most voters cared about the economy. so i think the advisors who want him to stay on message about the economy are right. however, the other side to this, and i guess i'm

and like the stagnant nature of our economy. >> and he should. the problem is mitt romney saying these things. and it's not just about the 47% that was mentioned in that speech. you have to remember, he also talked about if i was perhaps latino, it would be easier for me, i would be winning this thing already. he said a bunch of other things in that video that this is going to undermine his ability to really attack the president on domestic policies and seen as believable. because we saw mitt romney talking in private about how he really feels. so what he says on stage is going to sound hollow because we saw him behind the scenes. and that's his greatest obstacle about the whole video. it's not about the numbers and trying to break it down, it's the sentiment behind the entire video which was condescending, which came from a place of elitism. >> okay. he just misspoke. >> no, i think, carol, he makes a good point. that's going to be very difficult for romney to readdress that 47%. on the flip side, this will be the first time someone can really go after president obama over the a
